SBS SeaMat articulating concrete block mats are manufactured by inflating a double-layer, synthetic fabric woven into a matrix of rectangular compartments. The compartments contain high-strength tendons such that when pumped full with structural grout, the blocks will be tied together in both directions. The resulting concrete block mat can be manufactured in any length and width that can be handled by the installation crane.
SeaMats can be engineered to be lifted from one end and set on the ocean floor without inducing the high dynamic crane loads typical of mats traveling the water column in the horizontal position. The size and weight of handling systems is greatly reduced allowing more product per ton of crane capacity than other systems. SeaMats can also be configured with non-abrasive coatings on one or both sides that serve to protect pipeline coatings.
